Hypertension Guidelines

#Hypertension Guidelines:

A very common question I get during consults is: What is the magic number for blood pressure?
Most people still think it is 120/80. The answer is individualized. It will depend on age and comorbid conditions. There is more than one guideline, I evaluate each case and recommend the Joint National Comitee or American College of Cardiology/American Heart Association guidelines.

Here is one of the differences: High blood pressure should be treated earlier with lifestyle changes and in some patients with medication at 130/80 mm Hg rather than 140/90 based on new ACC and American Heart Association (AHA) guidelines for the detection, prevention, management and treatment of high blood pressure.
